Aruba

Aruba is just another Caribbean island.  We did not have any excursions and would have liked to gone to the beach, but the weather did not cooperate.  It rained this morning and the clouds never seemed to lift.  We decided not to hire a taxi to tour the island as it is mostly resorts.  Besides, I did not want to go to any beaches where American tourist women seem to disappear, never to be seen again.

So we went to Orangjestad, the capital city, and the first thing we see is Diamonds International and the Tanzanite store.  You know what that means – shopping, cruise ship style.  The cruise ship company (Carnival) owns the jewelry shops and there is one on every island.  Store after store was selling either jewelry or souvenirs.  There is a huge casino and a mall with high-end shops.  There was even a canal from the boat harbor right to the mall where you can dinghy in to shop!  We walked around town and the humidity started to rise and the breeze started to die down.  That means that my hair frizzed and I was all sweaty.  God, I hate being sweaty.  The heat doesn’t seem to bother Michael too much.

I bought some tote bags at the open air market.  I know, I have a million of them already.  But who can resist a bargain of three large zippered totes with cute embroidery for the grand sum of $10?  We finished walking around town and headed back to the ship.  Michael played bridge this afternoon in a social game and I caught up on pictures and the blog.  I even got to FaceTime with Deborah and Isabelle ;)

We are hosting a dinner table again tonight.  Arrrrggghhh!  Dinner starts at 7:45pm.  OMG, why on earth do they schedule it for so late?
