Day 1 at Sea

The seas were smooth during the night, but the boogie man was lurking in the shadows.  Poor Michael.  He was up and down all night, not knowing which way to face the porcelain god.  Needless to say, I didn’t get much sleep either.

Being the warrior that he is, he got himself showered and ready for our first day of bridge on this trip in between bouts of nausea and diarrhea.  He managed to teach both the beginner and intermediate classes, and then made a beeline for bed.  I pumped him full of anti-nausea medicine and he rested for two hours and like the good trooper, directed the afternoon game.

The game this afternoon was very challenging – for me.  There were expert players and inexperienced players – as well as some that should take up another pastime.  I had to ghost play with one player who held up the game with skills that had seen better days.  It was quite exhausting.  I wound up playing out two rounds when one woman left to go for a massage.  Not good etiquette!

After cleaning up the bridge room and stowing all the supplies, we both headed back to our cabin to collapse.  Michael still feels sick and now has a headache.  I am just exhausted from lack of sleep as well as the physical demands from today.  We are staying in tonight.

I have just returned from the “block party,” which was held out in the hallway.  This is a wonderful way to meet your neighbors.  Other “enrichment” passengers are located in this area of deck 4 forward.  After champagne and canapés, and greetings from the captain and staff, I decided to pack it in for the night.  The seas are starting to build and the ship is rocking.  As I have reported before, the bow gets a rough ride.  Boo hoo!

  1. Hi Beverly & Michael,
Didn't get a chance to wish you bon-voyage on this grand trip. We wish you good times and above all good health. Sounds like the 1st day at sea wasn't the best for Michael. We hope that passes quickly. We look forward to hearing about your travels and will keep you up on what goes on with us as the time goes by.
Happy New Year and Happy sailing!
    Delores & Marv
